Outline Agenda

An outline agenda for tomorrows meeting is below. The focus of the meeting has changed slightly to establishing a working group to determine how we all want to move the SBA forwards, what we want to see for businesses in St Leonards and how we get there.

We still need input, more now than ever, so see you tomorrow.

  • Apologies
  • Chairman’s Report

SBA Business

As we drift into the 3rd month of 2011 SBA is stirring from winter hibernation, (and exhaustion for some after all their amazingly hard work at Christmas), and is organizing a meeting.

Why? Because things have changed. The Chairman, Bill Orton has retired and will be resigning, the Vice chair position needs filling, and Linda, the SBA secretary and Treasurer for many years is also calling it a day.

So, can we get thinking please? Do you want to stand for any of those three posts? Do you know someone who might like to stand? Would you like to stand for a position on the committee that isn’t a big cheese, yet? From March 1st there will be a page on the website www.sba-online/election where you can leave suggestions and comments.

A meeting will be organized for sometime in March so voting can take place. Advice will be sent out and on the website asap.

Regards to all, happy trading…

Police win ££ Award, give it to charity

HASTINGS Police has won £1,000 for shutting down a cafe allegedly doubling as a drugs and vice den – and promptly donated the cash to two local charities.

Zone One in Silchester Road, St Leonards, was closed after officers swooped in December 2009 in an operation also involving the council, the UK Borders Agency and HM Revenue and Customs. Neighbours had repeatedly complained about drugs, kerb crawling, drinking, and anti-social behaviour centred around the cafe, and it became the first premises in the county to be shut under a closure order.

Heritage Days meeting

This years Heritage Open Days is September 8th -11th and we are planning early!

Please come to a meeting or send a representative to join a brainstorming session for this coming years programme plus some Hods info. and guidelines.
The theme this year is “Opening Spaces, Going Places” and there is an idea on the table for the events such as tours to be timed east-west / dawn-dusk (starting with breakfast on the East hill and sunset endings at West St Leonards). How would this theme and idea suit your ideas and your venue?

If you can’t attend this meeting but would like to flag up an issue or idea for discussion please email me.

Also please forward this mail to any group, business or individual that may be interested in helping, organising, inspiring or advising.

Look forward to seeing you,

Kings Road

The roadworks are done, (pretty speedily) and some trees have been planted on the east side to deter parking on the pavements. The trees are cherry, with white flowers in spring and summer.

Kings Road: Roadworks

From the council/council contractors

Dear Resident / Trader

A maintenance inspection of the Kings Road Regeneration scheme has identified that remedial works need to be carried out in London Road, adjacent to its junction with Kings Road and in Kings Road itself.

The work includes relaying the granite setts on the ramps in London Road which have started to fall out and minor remedial works to kerbing in Kings Road. In addition 6 trees are to be installed on the eastern side of Kings Road between Laser Lane and No 28 Kings Road. Initially the pits to install the trees are to be constructed with the installation of the trees being carried out at a later date.

In order to carry out the repairs to the granite setts in London Road safely it will be necessary to use 2-way temporary traffic signals to control the movement of vehicles. The temporary lights will be manually controlled during peak hours to minimise traffic congestion. The work is programmed to be completed in 2 weeks, weather permitting. In addition to the temporary traffic signals the pedestrian crossing and the bus stop near the junction with Kings Road will be closed. An alternative bus stop exists on London Road close to its junction with Silchester Road.

The works in Kings Road require pedestrian barrier to guard the works in localised areas and the entrance to shops and deliveries will not be affected. Construction is expected to be completed in 3 weeks, weather permitting.

If you have any issues regarding access or require further information about the scheme, please contact David Bowgen on 07712032603 or email david.bowgen@mouchel.com.

(Thanks to Councillor Jeremy Birch for passing on this info to SBA)

Marina Roadworks
