Parking, again
Hastings Council has lost control of parking, which has reverted to East Sussex County Council, probably as a revenue grabbing scheme.
We are writing to Councillor Birch of Hastings Council to seek information about whether previous assurances will be honoured, such as no change being made for the time being to the structure or pricing of the parking in St Leonards.
Look what happened in Lewes.
Christmas update
The SBA Christmas packs are going out any day now, please respond as soon as possible.
(The DL size leaflets are missing. If you are going to take part we will get those to you asap.)
And! The Christams website is live:
All details are there, and the maps will be updated, as will the list of events you, the traders, organize for your own shops.
Christmas
Some initial details of the SBA Christmas doings are on the Xmas page.
A presentation pack will be going to all shops in the area over the next week or so, with full details of activities, publicity, how to help, how to make the best of this years festivities.
If you don’t have a pack by the 14th* leave a message here and we will try and get one to you.
Next week I hope to post a list of committee members by street. You will then be able to talk to someone on your street about SBA stuff, making life easier for all.
*Ooops. Running late. Soon, soon….
Christmas…The General Meeting
That time again, time to start thinking of Christmas and how we can add a zing to the St Leonards Christmas for all our customers, potential customers, and, well, because it’s Christmas…
There will be a General Meeting of all SBA members, (and anyone else you want to bring along), on Monday 5th September, Alpha Cafe, (by Warrior Square railway station), at 6:30pm
What’s needed are ideas and people prepared to see the ideas through. You can guess the next bit: there isn’t much money about from the council or elsewhere this year. So our ideas have to be really good ideas, affordable ideas and ideas we can make happen. You all can do that, I’m sure.
A few things done in the past or maybe worth a thought:
• Best Window competition
• Decorating empty shop’s windows
• Street decorations
• Competitions for kids, (this year we might have time to get input from schools)
• Art as presents, (include the many artists in St Leonards)
• Carols
• Mince pie competition
• Pirate Santa dressing up
• St Leonards Humbugs for the scrooges…
So, please come along on Monday 5th September, Alpha Cafe, (by Warrior Square railway station), at 6:30pm and share your ideas and help make St Leonards have a good Christmas this year.
Police message: no probs at the moment
From Hastings Police, (via Town Centre Management)
There are continual rumours circulating on social media about local disorder but we can confirm that we have not been called to any incidents of disorder or violence.
Sussex Police are providing support to the Metropolitan Police but whilst recognising the national issue, local policing comes first.
Hastings Police is fully prepared should there be any disturbances locally, but at present we have no information to suggest that there is a risk of this happening.
We will keep you informed should the situation change.
St Leonards Gardens; Family Delights Day, 31/7
From The Friends of St Leonards Gardens:
We need volunteers to help staff our event in St Leonards Gardens on Saturday 30th July. As you may remember this was a very successful event last year and we had 350 attending – a great day !!
Click picture to enlarge it
The event is a collaboration with Hastings Intercultural Organisation, Friends of St Leonards Gardens with support from Hastings BC, The Isabel Blackman Foundation and SE England Faiths Forum. Please let us know if you can help on the day. We will need some set up help from 12 noon and more help from about 2:00 to 5:30pm to help as Stewards and to be responsible for drinks and food. We will allocate a task once you let us know you are available. Thanks in advance for your help, Tim Miller and the Planning Committee. timjmiller@onetel.net
Advertising Sales
This has just arrived from Rob Woods, Town Centre Management:
Hi
I’ve just been informed that advertising reps are in town trying to sell something called “community Ad” I can’t advise you on the provenance of this organization as I don’t know them but they have certainly not discussed advertising opportunities with me and do not have any endorsement from Town centre Management
