Christmas update
The SBA Christmas packs are going out any day now, please respond as soon as possible.
(The DL size leaflets are missing. If you are going to take part we will get those to you asap.)
And! The Christams website is live:
All details are there, and the maps will be updated, as will the list of events you, the traders, organize for your own shops.
Christmas
Some initial details of the SBA Christmas doings are on the Xmas page.
A presentation pack will be going to all shops in the area over the next week or so, with full details of activities, publicity, how to help, how to make the best of this years festivities.
If you don’t have a pack by the 14th* leave a message here and we will try and get one to you.
Next week I hope to post a list of committee members by street. You will then be able to talk to someone on your street about SBA stuff, making life easier for all.
*Ooops. Running late. Soon, soon….
Christmas…The General Meeting
That time again, time to start thinking of Christmas and how we can add a zing to the St Leonards Christmas for all our customers, potential customers, and, well, because it’s Christmas…
There will be a General Meeting of all SBA members, (and anyone else you want to bring along), on Monday 5th September, Alpha Cafe, (by Warrior Square railway station), at 6:30pm
What’s needed are ideas and people prepared to see the ideas through. You can guess the next bit: there isn’t much money about from the council or elsewhere this year. So our ideas have to be really good ideas, affordable ideas and ideas we can make happen. You all can do that, I’m sure.
A few things done in the past or maybe worth a thought:
• Best Window competition
• Decorating empty shop’s windows
• Street decorations
• Competitions for kids, (this year we might have time to get input from schools)
• Art as presents, (include the many artists in St Leonards)
• Carols
• Mince pie competition
• Pirate Santa dressing up
• St Leonards Humbugs for the scrooges…
So, please come along on Monday 5th September, Alpha Cafe, (by Warrior Square railway station), at 6:30pm and share your ideas and help make St Leonards have a good Christmas this year.

St Leonards Festival
The wonderful St Leonards Festival, the south coast’s answer to Nottin’ Hill is on the 16th of July.
Grab a stall before they all go.
Tell the world about yourself and your services.
Have fun.
And lend a hand; stewards needed.
The Festival
Bookings are being taken for stalls at the St Leonards Festival. This year the stalls will be right by all the activity in Warrior Square with the larger and more concentrated footfall that means. Stalls will be along the bottom of the square on Oudenaard Walk, which continues on from Norman Road. It’s a great spot, and you can expect better trade than before with the festival audience being right there.
Stall space will be £25 for a 3mx3m pitch, which includes your trading licence, but not a table or a stall. Bring your own tables, gazebos, stall and festive arrangements please. There will be water but no power.
The festival closes at 8:00pm this year so people will want to eat, and the only food in the square itself will be ice creams, so plenty of opportunity for food people there. Food stalls are being allocated on a first come first serve basis, so no duplication occurs: the festival doesn’t want 7 burger sellers, (when we know there is a wonderful array of food in the area.)
So, come on SBA people. This won’t only be of benefit on the day, it’ll be a promotion of your business to a large audience…some hotels and guest houses are already booked up. A fun trading opportunity not to be missed.
Festival Update
On Saturday 16th July the Gensing and Central St Leonards Community Forum will host the 6th St Leonards Festival. Due the economic situation effecting funding this year it has been decided to consolidate the year’s festival on to one site. The traditional street market will now take place on Oudenaarde Walk, which runs along the front of the main part of Warrior Square gardens. The market will be open from 11am to 8pm.
We hope that you will join us this year and look forward to receiving your completed applications together with your cheque and any necessary documentation. Application forum can be obtained from the forum office at the Community Information Centre 16 Silchester Road or by e-mail to office@gcsl.org.uk Leonards If you require any further information please contact Beverly Winchester on 01424 438291 or email [beverly.winchester@gcsl.org.uk]
St Leonards Festival
As you may be aware there has been some concern about delivering a Festival in St leonards this year. The key concern has been around funding (no surpises). However following discussions between the hosts The Gensing & Central St Leonards Forum and HBC we are now pleased to say that a Festival will happen this year and although somewhat reduced in scale, we hope not in quality. The Forum (Volunteers) will once again be organising the event this year and be supported by some funding from HBC.
The Festival will take place on the 16th July and all planned activities will be in and around Warrior Square Gardens. If you would like to know more, please contact either Beverly or Sylvia at the Community Information Centre at 16, Silchester Rd or Phone 438291.
Any ideas, volunteers and donations would help a lot, so lets get the SBA in there.

Heritage Days meeting
This years Heritage Open Days is September 8th -11th and we are planning early!
Please come to a meeting or send a representative to join a brainstorming session for this coming years programme plus some Hods info. and guidelines.
The theme this year is “Opening Spaces, Going Places” and there is an idea on the table for the events such as tours to be timed east-west / dawn-dusk (starting with breakfast on the East hill and sunset endings at West St Leonards). How would this theme and idea suit your ideas and your venue?
If you can’t attend this meeting but would like to flag up an issue or idea for discussion please email me.
Also please forward this mail to any group, business or individual that may be interested in helping, organising, inspiring or advising.
Look forward to seeing you,
Thursday 10th February 2011 14.30-16.30 hrs.
