Traffic update. Fingers crossed edition?

From the Hastings Observer:

“In recent years changes to parking charges in particular have caused a huge amount of upset locally, with traders in the Old Town and Central St Leonards complaining that high prices were costing them business.”

“Speaking at the meeting, council director Richard Homewood said: “The review certainly highlights shortcoming in our consultation with the public. We have learnt lessons.”

Committee Meeting.

Held last week, discussed were the St Leonards Festival, (please see entry below), parking and Kings Road.

The new parking regulations, mostly affecting the Norman Road area whilst Kings Road is worked on, is getting a mixed response. The traders at the Warrior Square end like the 1 hour limit as it means there is always parking available for customers. Up the hill, the traders, especially the antique traders feel 1 hour is too short a time for browsing properly.

Please let us know your feelings on this, both now and as the scheme settles in, so that we can submit detailed responses to the 6 monthly review.

Feelings still run high about Kings Road. The work seems ahead of schedule but the actual handover date, (from contractor to local authority), seems confused. SBA is in talks with the council on aspects of this, again, if you feel you need a voice, let us know.

St Leonards Festival

The St Leonards Festival, which is on 11th July 2009, needs your help.

Do you want a stall on the Kings Road on the day? Priority is been given to local businesses but time marches on so contact them now, (01424 438291). It is a good way to show off your business, and has a lasting effect. Did you know:

  • A lot of B&Bs and smaller hotels are already fully booked for that weekend?
  • All the hotels and restaurants have ordered extra supplies for that weekend?
  • There is a knock on effect on trade all year around: putting the place on the map helps generate footfall, and with the new Kings Road scheme this is a great opportunity to show how St Leonards is improving.
  • One trader sold 3 high value items several weeks after the 2008 festival to someone who had discovered her at the festival.

The organisers, (Gensing &Central St Leonrds Community Forum), who have done an amazing job as volunteers, need help with stewarding on the day. Stewards will work in 4 hour shifts, and all volunteers will be entered into a draw for a great meal out. Please contact GCSL at the number above, or email here.

There is also a Festival website, which went up today, 15/6, at www.stleonardsfestival.co.uk, which will have details of everything going on. If you have any info, or snippets to share about the festival please contact using the form here.

If anyone would like to make a small, (or large) donation towards the costs of the festival, please call Sylvia on the number above. They really could do with a bit.

St Leonard’s Festival

The St Leonard’s Festival is only about a month away, and given the disruption of the Kings Road roadworks, it’s all hands on deck time.

The Gensing and St Leonards Community Forum has the details and is co-ordinating, and their website is here.

Stalls will be £25, and priority will be given to local businesses and residents. You can have whatever you want on your stall, (stop being silly at the back, nearly anything you want!), so it’s a good opportunity to maybe market test a new line, or a change in direction.

If you want an A3 .pdf of the Festival Poster you can down load it from here

The SBA Committee wil be talking about this at a meeting on Tuesday, and we will report back here.

If there is anything you would like raised in the meeting please leave details in the comments, below.

AND…please email us with any news you think should go on this site. That’s the very best way we can keep our ears to the ground, and the more info we get in the more we can put out. Thanks.
